"My Little Assassin" engages its audience so much that the viewer wants to know more about the real woman whose story is depicted in this compelling Lifetime telefilm inspired by actual events. Beautiful, elegant Gabrielle Anwar, much like a contemporary Audrey Hepburn, plays her challenging role with sensitive credibility.

Fanatical agent Stewart Allen (Scott Paulin) pressures her to train to assassinate Castro. She's placed under the tutelage of grim Frank Sturgis (Robert Davi) and sent to Cuba. But she hears Castro's words "No one can kill Fidel" echo in her ears, and she returns home. Years later, she learns part of what actually happened.

Anwar is excellent as the young idealist caught up in the frenzy and enthusiasm of the revolution. (more)

"I may as well have been a big rubber doll with a hole strategically placed," says Gabrielle Anwar of her role as Andy Garcia's love interest in the soon-to-video Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead. And while the actress is pleased with her work as a woman with a mysterious past in The Grave, she's unhappy about the 'princesses and ineloquent bimbettes' she's agreed to play along the way. "I've made my own bed," she says. "I'm only now regretting it." Says Grave director Jonas Pate, "She's always cast as the beautiful woman. But she has this incredibly funny, dark sensibility." Sure thing. Her sensual 7-minute tango with Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman sent Gabrielle Anwar, 24, into orbit, where her mile-long eyebrows and acre-wide lips (inherited from her father and English mother) have casting directors gazing her way. She flustered Michael J. Fox in '93s For Love or Money and is now filming Halcyon Days, a murder mystery. 'There's an Audrey Hepburn grace of spirit in her that is captivating,' says Scent director Martin Brest. (more)

Gabrielle Anwar, the young British actress who charmed Al Pacino in the Oscar-winning movie Scent Of A Woman, has had to have all the costumes her latest film let out because she is expecting a baby. Four-months-pregnant Anwar, who moved from her home in Staines, Middlesex, to find fame in Hollywood four years ago, had to persuade producers of the new £20million The Three Musketeers - which co-stars Keifer Sutherland and Charlie Sheen - to let her stay. The 22-year-old actress, in Cannes for the official competition screening of The Body Snatchers, said her figure would be hidden by billowing gowns. The father is an American cowboy and part-time actor. She is not revealing his name for public consumption, but I hear there are tentative plans for them to marry later in the year.

In The Three Musketeers, Anwar plays a virginal princess. To be sure she looks the part, her gowns were re-designed to keep her condition hidden. Stunt doubles were used in scenes where strenuous action was required. 'She's very slender, so it doesn't really show she's pregnant, but I can understand the concern about her safety and that she looks right for the part,' one of her agents told me. Gabrielle Anwar has moved up the Hollywood ladder fast. Her role in Scent Of A Woman, in which she dances a hot tango with Pacino, was small but got her noticed. She then starred opposite Michael J. Fox in The Concierge, which opens later this year. Gabrielle plans to rest after she finishes work on the Musketeers film. The baby is due in October.
